What is a clinical immunologist?

 

A clinical immunologist in Australia is a medical specialist (physician) who has trained in internal medicine, then studied the diagnosis and treatment of illnesses of the immune system. For example:

  • Allergic disorders including food allergy, inhalant allergy, venom allergy, atopic eczema, and allergic component of asthma.
  • Investigation and treatment of autoimmune disorders, for example SLE, Sjogren's syndrome, scleroderma, and vasculitis.
  • Investigation and treatment of congenital and acquired immunodeficiency disorders, including HIV/AIDS.

Some clinical immunologists are also pathologists, academics, or researchers. More information....
